“A tiny production release, the 2018 Cabernet Sauvignon The Thomas Collection is all varietal (I believe) that spent 22 months in barrel before bottling, and is held back in bottle before release. Its saturated plum/purple hue is followed by a terrific nose of smoky black fruits, chocolatey oak, iron, and leafy herbs which turns slightly more floral and exotic with time in the glass. It’s rich, full-bodied, has beautiful mid-palate depth, and nicely integrated tannins and acidity. Winery Ranch, Stags Leap District
Acquired in 1998, our family’s winemaking journey began at Winery Ranch. Nestled within the Stags Leap District, the vineyard benefits from cooling marine breezes and nighttime cold air currents. The Stags Leap fruit for The Thomas Collection is sourced from Block 4, where Clone 6 Cabernet Sauvignon thrives in volcanic gravel loam soils, producing intensely flavored fruit.
Stella Knight Vineyard, Diamond Mountain District
Acquired in 2013 by my grandfather Paul and father, the Stella Knight Vineyard in Calistoga, Diamond Mountain District enjoys the welcome shade of the afternoon sun. This unique terroir, combined with Clone 6 Cabernet Sauvignon in Block 3, results in a balanced fruit profile and refreshing acidity with a rich structure, all accentuated by a warm Mediterranean climate.
Crafted exclusively from 100% Cabernet Sauvignon, The Thomas Collection matures for 22 months in 100% new French oak barriques, using a proprietary oak and toast profile designed exclusively for this wine. The oak plays a complementary role, emphasizing characteristics unveiled during extended maceration and contributing rounded complexity.
