Varietal: Cabernet Sauvignon

Appellaton: Stags Leap District

Vineyard Designation: Estate Grown, Family Estate

Harvest Date: September 20 – 27, 2016

Vineyard Notes

Purchased in 1998, the Family Ranch is located in the Stags Leap District AVA of the Napa Valley. The climate is known for a longer growing season of warm days and cool nights—perfect for late-maturing varietals such as Cabernet Sauvignon with a signature style from this region known for its distinctive combination of power and elegance. We have 17.58 acres planted to Cabernet Sauvignon and a small amount of Cabernet Franc. Our production facility, barrel cave and visitor center are also located here.

Tasting Notes

Each year we challenge ourselves to create the most authentic expression from the Stags Leap District. The 2016 Black Label perfectly demonstrates the balance between power and finesse. The fruit, both in the aroma and on the palate, is all dark and jammy supported by layers of dark cacao, baking spice and licorice. The tannin structure is gorgeous, and simultaneously shows power and grace. The finish is long and rich. This is one of those wines to enjoy in its youth or set aside to cellar and relish later.
